Aided by a man she knows only as “The Doctor,” reporter Martha Jones tracks a vicious serial killer who calls himself “The Master.” The trail leads them to charismatic politician Harold Saxon, who has a sordid history with The Doctor. As the bodies pile up and Saxon spins increasingly out of control, Martha begins to wonder if she can trust anyone at all, least of all, The Doctor.

Alec is slowly dying. His heart is failing. It’s ironic, he now realizes. He is literally dying of a broken heart. Maybe God, if he really does exist, does have a sense of humor.
